After running a search in RateView, you can take advantage of the Quote Calculator to quickly price a truck and come up with a quote for the shipper on a bid.
- Click on the +button to expand the Quote Calculator section
- Next, enter any accessorial fees you may owe to the carrier as well as the percentage of profit you are looking to make
- RateView will take the per-mile rate and multiply it by the total number of miles in the trip. It will then add any accessorial charges you enter. Lastly, it will include the percentage of margin you specify to calculate the final quote.
In the example above, the truck pay is calculated as follows:- Linehaul: $1.22/mi × 2,150 miles = $2,623.00
- Fuel: $0.37/mi × 2,150 miles = $795.50
- Accessorial Charges: $0.00
- Total Truck Pay: $3,418.50 ($1.59/mi)
With a 10% margin added ($341.85), the final quote to the shipper is $3,760.35, or $1.75/mi. This provides a profit of $341.85 on top of the truck pay.
